AFA Chapter 285 3rd Quarter Updates

Hope everyone has had a good summer and that the Covid-19 restrictions have not put too much of a damper on life. It has definitely been a “different” year! I have a couple of announcements concerning an upcoming event, new Chapter governance, and a scholarship opportunity,.

Next Event—A Virtual Meeting with the AFOSI Commander-Our AFA Chapter is resuming our quarterly meetings with some changes due to Covid-19 restrictions and not wanting our members, college-age AFROTC cadets, and AFJROTC students to subject themselves to any potential viruses. Therefore, we are holding a virtual meeting via Zoom with our guest speaker, Brigadier General Terry Bullard, Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) Commander, discussing OSI Today, It’s Challenges and the Future. He will also be available to discuss the career field with any AFROTC cadets wanting to know more about the job and how to apply.

This event will be free to the first 100 registrants. We are limited in number on Zoom, so please register. You will be sent (via email) a zoom link to use from any device capable of linking to zoom and the internet.

To register, please click the registration button below and you will be sent a link to the zoom meeting. Contact Robin Thompson at VA285.Roanoke@afa.org.

New Chapter Leadership: Dwight Holland will be taking over as our Chapter President and Scott Van Cleef will be our new Chapter Treasurer on 1 October. Paul Lilly will continue as the Chapter Vice President and James McGuire will continue as the Chapter Secretary. Robin Thompson and Jay Thompson’s terms as President and Treasurer have concluded and they will continue to support the chapter however they can. The new leadership will take on the challenges of continuing events and opportunities for people in our local areas despite Covid-19 limitations.

New Academic Scholarship Opportunity: We are proud to announce a new scholarship opportunity in our chapter. John Ree, a supportive and generous chapter member, died last year and the chapter received a donation in his name to start an academic scholarship. We are working out the details now. Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming months.

That is all the news for now! Hope to see many of you at our next Zoom meeting!

Robin Thompson,

AFA 285 Chapter President
